UNDP - THE UN's GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT NETWORK UNDP assists in building a better future with strong democratic institutions on all levels and a prosperous economy that benefits everyone. Human development, the strengthening of human capacities, is at the heart of our work. This builds on human rights and the empowerment and protection of the vulnerable.
UNDP is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range partners.
NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES UNDP has been present in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia since 1997. UNDP’s current focus areas of support have been identified through a strategic review of the roles of the UN and UNDP in light of the country’s rapid progresses made towards achieving its development priorities – EU accession and attainment of the Millennium Development Goals. UNDP’s programmes are developed and managed in close partnership with the Government and other local stakeholders so that we can together make progresses towards our common visions. These focus areas are:
Democratic Governance Social Inclusion Environment These flagship areas represent the core of UNDP activities in the country. Through each of them, UNDP provides expert advice and consultations to the central and local governments while connecting people to knowledge and information. Our programme further builds on the principles of human rights. Furthermore, in all applicable programmes UNDP promotes the advancement of women and protection of the vulnerable. UNDP is also actively promoting information and communications technology in advancing development priorities.
