Joint Programmes / Projects
Given the expertise and experience of the individual UN sister-agencies, the UN family makes collective efforts to act as “one” in terms of strengthening the country analytical framework or developing and implementing joint programmes and projects. In the course of 2007, the process of forming Joint Programmes was initiated in the thematic areas of Gender (Domestic Violence), Social Inclusion and Decentralization. In addition, several UNDP projects benefited from cross-fertilization of knowledge and joint action with the specialized UN agencies and programmes. Project for providing technical assistance and policy advice to the Ministry of Transport and Communication for development of the Law on Legalization of Illegal Buildings is being implemented in partnership with UN-HABITAT.
Relying on the technical expertise of the World Tourism Organization, UNDP also provided technical assistance to the Government for preparation of Tourism Development Strategy 2008-2012.
Along with other UN agencies and through a joint programme, UNDP has been supporting national systems to better address and respond to the issue of Domestic Violence. The support combines mobilization for action at the highest policy-making levels i.e. the Parliament and Government as well as at the grass-root community-based and civil society actors’ level.
In partnership with UNFPA, UNICEF, UNIFEM and WHO, UNDP supports the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy (MLSP) and other relevant national institutions to prepare country specific analyses of the status and challenges of the socially excluded and vulnerable groups and to support the MLSP in developing a Social Inclusion Strategy.
The UN Joint Programme for strengthening inter-ethnic cohesion, which is in its initial stages of implementation, aims to enhance social capital, to strengthen national systems and capacities for inter-ethnic cohesion and to promote inter-cultural sensitivity and civic awareness.
